ps: this is a cisco router question and you posted an Intel link to a shiva device error message list ?

OSPF area mis-match

This is the current configuration and there is an area mis-match
router ospf 1
network 172.16.0.0 0.0.255.255 area 0
network 172.32.0.0 0.0.255.255 area 1
How do you rectify the problem
1.
router ospf 1
no network 172.32.0.0 0.0.255.255 area 1
network 172.32.0.0 0.0.255.255 area 0
Or
2.
no router ospf 1
router ospf 1
network 172.16.0.0 0.0.255.255 area 0
network 172.32.0.0 0.0.255.255 area 0
On a 2500 I tested it on you had to use option 2, but someone said it can be done on a 2514 using option 1 this was the output.
The "network 172.32.0.0.0.0.255.255.area 0" command will change it from area 1 to area 0.
You'll get the following response:
00:08:31: %OSPF-6-AREACHG: 172.32.0.0/16 changed from area 1 to area 0
1. Why would option 1 work
2. Is it Cisco ios version dependant
3. What would be best practice
4. Is the backbone area 0 significant because - If you just remove the networking command then this would not flush the whole link DB. Given the fact that you are moving it into the backbone area you should flush the DB - hence do a no router ospf 1.
5. Is this statement true ?
I wouldn't remove the entire OSPF routing process with "no router ospf 1"
under any conditions ,though. Just remove the one network from Area 1 and place it into Area 0.
(Unfortunately I do not have the details of the IOS versions yet).

Hi cyrus
I have searched the net for your OSPF mis-match, and here is what i found.
OSPF: area mismatch
A protocol packet has been received which, from its format, should be from a virtual link. However, this router is not an area border router; the packet is therefore invalid and will be ignored
Go to this link, it has all OSPF erro messages:

Thank you,

Thanks for taking the time out to answer my question. The problem is you didn't answer my question(s). Did you read it properly and understand it?
There are 5 questions you did not answer.

This question was originally posted on the technical forum and some guys were trying to answer it. I put it on the "Ask the Tutor" forum so that the Cisco tutor would answer it.
Just for the record Number 4 is my ex-tutor CCNP/CCIE part qualified. Number 5. is from a CCIE
4. Is the backbone area 0 significant because - If you just remove the networking command then this would not flush the whole link DB. Given the fact that you are moving it into the backbone area you should flush the DB - hence do a no router ospf 1.
