Problem:
After installing Windows XP on an Inspiron 5000 or 5000e portable computer, the volume buttons on the left side of the unit may not function.
Discussion:
Dell does not supply audio drivers for this system for use with the Windows XP operating system.
Solution:
In order for the volume controls to be functional in Windows XP, you should obtain an updated driver from Microsoft.
Perform a Windows Update to obtain the latest sound driver available by performing the following steps:
Click the Start button, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Update.
In the left pane, click the driver updates link.
Scroll through the list of available drivers and located the following entry: ESS Audio driver.
Follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the ESS audio driver update.

Проблема следующая:в Win XP не работает кнопка управления звуком. В 98ом она работала.
Есть ли возможность её как-то оживить?
З.Ы. Это не биос. В нем вообще таких настроек нет.
З.З.Ы. Сайт делловской тех.поддержки не рулит касательно этого вопроса.
